The Centre des archives d'outre-mer (ANOM, France)

The mandate of the Centre des archives d’outre-mer in Aix-en-Provence, a decentralized service of the Archives nationales, is to conserve archives related to the French colonial expansion. It holds two large groupings of documents from different administrative and archival sources: one consists of the archives from government departments responsible for France’s colonial empire from the 17th to the 20th century; and the other is made up of archives transferred from former colonies and from Algeria, at the time of their independence. It also includes private and business archives related to French activities overseas, and specialized libraries devoted to maps, images and books.
